Using Wordpress to increase SEO in Web Development

It’s a strange thing that I came to Wordpress late- indeed the only reason I did was on the recommendation of a friend and fellow Manchester based web designer Craig Hammnett who published an interesting example of how effective his blog was – he targeted Manchester Freelance Web Design as an SEO term and within 10 hours was on the first page of Google.

This proves a few things – firstly blogging helps enormously on the SEO front – consistant changes to the home page blog and external link references in the form of free templates etc. just work.

Secondly the SEO agencies charge a fortune for absolutely not much more than the advice I’m going to give here this being seo is not rocket science – links work and constant blogging works – the more relevant content you push out the better. If this ties in with your keywords and meta data then your on to a winner.

My next experiment will be with some content rich mini sites – all pointing to this site, based on key references of Web Design, Development and location specific Macclesfield, Manchester. I may even do some auto posting based around API data although I’m not sure if this will be seen as relevant.

Its interesting how this will pan out. I think craigs experiment with “manchester freelancer” is interesting. Especially when you consider the main reason is minimal competition for that key term.

On the google keyword tool “manchester freelancer” doesnt get enough search volume for any data. Similar terms getting around 20 odd searches monthly.

Duplicate content seems to be a growing issue… especially harder now that google will recognise bob.com/ and bob.com as two seperate sites. Whats it going to be like with actual duplicate content?

Agree on the waste of time SnakE Oil companies out there. A lot of companies profit out of the ignorance of there clients. Promising what they cant deliver.

sorry long comment!
